Common Eyeglass Problems And Optical Repair Solutions For Them

Posted on

Eyeglasses are essential for people with vision problems, but they can face several issues that warrant repairs. Here are a few complications that could happen to a pair of eyeglasses you own and repair tactics for them.

Lens Scratches

Even though eyeglass lenses are durable, they can still be damaged under the right conditions and with enough force. For instance, simply using the wrong fabric when cleaning them could lead to scratches. Luckily, scratches aren't impossible to remove. A couple of tactics can help.

Using a microfiber cloth, clean the scratched lens. Next, pour baking soda into a bowl with water and mix it into a paste-like solution. Apply it with the microfiber towel and swirl it in a circular motion. Most of the time, scratches come right off. If they don't, repeat the same procedures until you feel you've made substantial headway with scratch removal.

Bent Frames

Several problems can happen if your eyeglass frames get bent. For example, you may have trouble seeing and getting the eyeglasses to rest on your face comfortably. Like scratched lenses, bent frames are repairable.

The trick is using enough pressure to move the frames back into the proper position. Using just your hands would be difficult, so get yourself pliers with soft ends. The pliers give you more grip and leverage, while the soft ends help prevent surface damage.

Light Reflections

If you start seeing light reflections when wearing a pair of eyeglasses, respond quickly before putting yourself at risk when driving and performing other actions that require good eyesight. You won't be able to repair the issue but should consider a lens replacement.

Eyeglass stores keep lenses with anti-reflecting coatings in stock. Regardless of what you do with eyeglasses on, light reflections won't interfere with your vision. If you tend to drive a lot during the day and at night, anti-reflective lenses are paramount to seek out.

Non-Fitting Lenses

For some people, the lenses their eyeglasses come with don't sit in the frame as they should. That's a problem because not only could your vision be impacted, but the lenses could also fall out with enough force.

The best way to address non-fitting lenses is to return your eyeglasses to the company that put them together. They'll re-measure the lenses and configure the frames until they're the proper size.

Eyeglasses are susceptible to different types of damage and problems, but regardless of what happens to them, there are plenty of repair tactics. Choose accordingly based on the kind of problems you run into.
